“RF Amplifiers’ Developer 2001”
The program “RF Amplifier Developer 2001” is designed to calculate and analyze all basic parameters for RF Amplifiers.
The user, using this program, can in 15 to 20 minutes calculate and receive a formatted text of basic parameters which usually takes an engineer 1 to 1½ weeks to calculate using a basic calculator.
The program automatically saves the last inputted parameters.
This program is beneficial for radio amateurs and engineers who design powerful radio transmitting devices.
Those who are interested in purchasing this program can find the contact information on: http://www.kvindesland.no/yl2qm/amplifier.htm.
The explanation
Input
parameters:
“Plate supply voltage DC , (V)” - DC voltage on anode of the tube loaded by zero-signal plate current, (voltage).
“Grid voltage, max. (V)” - maximum allowed positive voltage of the grid according to
technical information of the tube, (voltage).
“Screen supply voltage, (V)” - DC voltage. Must be defined using anode characteristics of the tube to get maximum peak anode current without distortion of current impulse.
“Single-tone plate current, (A)” - must not be more than maximum average current of cathode according to tube specification, (ampere).
“Zero-signal plate current, (A)” – must be defined, according to anode-grid characteristics, providing linear amplification of the tube, (ampere).
“Additional calculation for harmonics Nr.” - any harmonics, excepting the first one, can be entered. The first harmonic is basic, will be counted up automatically.
“Pi and Pi-L networks”
“Automatic search Q” - defining real network parameters with the account of stray circuit capacitance, tube capacitance and plate variable capacitor minimum capacitance.
“Separated inductors for each band” and "Series connected inductors"
“Diameter of inductors, (mm)” - internal diameter of the coil or diameter of coil core, (millimeters). Minimum diameter of the core must not be less than 3mm.
“Diameter of wire, (mm)” - diameter of copper wire or copper pipe, (millimeters).
“Turn spacing”, (mm) - the space between turns, from center to center of wire, (millimeters).
Software defines diameter of inductor as a sum - internal diameter of the coil + diameter of the wire.
User must choose real space between turns and wire diameter himself. The space between turns must be more than diameter of wire by at least 0.01mm. Q unload of inductor can be increased by increasing of inductor and wire diameters. That fact provides opportunity to improve efficiency of Pi or Pi-L-network and output power.
If the coil core is used for several bands, the number of turns for each band is equal to the # tap for each band.
L2 for Pi-L network always is made using the same core for all bands.
Calculation method used for series connected inductors
Example of calculations “Separated inductors” and “Series connected inductor” for the similar “R virtual” and “R load”.
Considered range 28 – 14 MHz
FRQ (MHz) 28 24 21 18 14
Separated inductors (uH): 0.33 0.44 0.61 0.83 1.36
Series connected inductors (uH): 0.33 0.11 0.28 0.5 1.03
Used two series connected inductors
28 MHz: 0 - 0.33 uH
24 – 14 MHz: 0 – 1.03 uH
Connection of 28 MHz and 24-14 MHz inductors gives in sum: 0.33 uH + 1.03 uH = 1.36 uH
The same method is used for each inductor tap:
24MHz: 0.33 uH + 0.11 uH = 0.44 uH
21 MHz: 0.33 uH + 0.28 uH = 0.61 uH
18 MHz: 0.33 uH + 0.5 uH = 0.83 uH
Problems
Program created as an English version.
If you use another “regional setting” you have to do next changes.
Go to “control panel” -> “regional settings” - >“number” -> “decimal symbol” and change there “,” to “.” (“comma” to “dot”).
Otherwise you can have a message "Not all parameters are entered!"
Reinstall & update
If you have got pop up window “Can not create reg.txt.”.
You may correct it.
1.Uninstall “RF Amplifiers Developer 2001” from “Control Panel” using “Edd/Remove Programs”
2.Go to C:\WINDOWS\Regedit
Open it.
You will get Registry Editor.
3. Open folder “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”
4.Find there folder “Drv” and delete it.
Software will create new folder “Drv” again after your registration.
