FART, Flexible And Rapid Tar

For people who need backup over the net but find scripting difficult.

What is FART ?

This is a collection of scripts that will assist you in taking backup of a remote site.

The system is designed to:

• Back up remote MYSQL databases
• Back up remote sites, file trees
• Place all backed up files in a directory, one for each day of the week
• On a weekly basis, provide an e-mail to signal that a weekly backup is due
• For the weekly backups, move the files over to a separate directory

FART is best used for smaller sites. It does not use incremental backup, but is doing a full backup each time.

It is well suited for gathering files overnight through a DSL line as cron job.
